POETRY: WHEN LAST DID YOU APPRECIATE YOUR BEING By: Issa Ameenah Abiodhun

Just like yesterday had gone,
Some had lived and gone,
Alive you are happy and healthy,
Smiling always with a beaming face,
Sounds of laughter and reason to have fun,
Yet, some are in the hospital living like dead.
Little  thanks you give to God you claim,
You have no excuse,
When last did you appreciate your being?

You complain of fabric with no starch,
Imagine yourself begging for patched rags,
People cover their nakedness with dry leaves,
Still with their condition, they remain grateful
When last did you appreciate your being?

You grudge of eating rice with no meat,
People smile on sight of decaying meal,
Groping the bins for leftover meals
Not minding their undoing fate,
Yet, they remain grateful.
When last did you appreciate your being?

With all four, you crawl
Imagine yourself living without legs,
Some are crippled, reeling the wheel chair
Still with their condition, they remain grateful
When last did you appreciate your being?

You cry because you're barren,
Some wait till their pregnancy escape miscarriage,
Or what would you say of a mother of six, whose six were earthed in six.
Still with their condition, they remain grateful.
When last did you appreciate your being?

We need to be grateful to the Lord,
For he gives life after death.
We need to be grateful to God,
For he promise ease after hardship.
