MATTERS ARISING: TALES OF SUICIDE AND SUICIDERS By: Maiyaki Abubakar Damilare

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that each year approximately one million people die from suicide, which represents a global mortality rate of 16 people per 100,000 or one death every 40 seconds. It is predicted that by 2020 the rate of death will increase to one every 20 seconds. - WHO (2019)

When the cold hands of  death stretches to have the grip of a victim, there is always a story to tell. That is to say, that death, just as it is inevitable, it is also a lover of controversy.
Controversy in the sense that it never excuse the dead from suspicions. When a person dies, there is always a room for reflection about the cause/causes of the loss. In most cases, death is always avoidable while sometimes it is, always natural.
It is not out of place to conclude that the cause of a death could either be as a result of personal undoing or external predicament.
There is no doubt, that the most painful and unceremonious path to the realms of the Heaven is personal or self inflicted woes. This is generally known as SUICIDE.
The concept of suicide is very deep, such that it is beyond ordinary human logic. The concept of suicide is indeed an enigma.
Since the thoughts about death alone causes one to grief and shake, that no one would like to have an experience of it, how much more being the catalyst of one's demise and the digger of one's grave. Therefore the feeling of suicide is expectedly but incredibly mysterious. It then spurred in my mind, a rhetorical.

 _WHY DO PEOPLE COMMIT SUICIDE?_

Although, cases of suicide are rampant. But there are obvious differences which triggers the horrible event. Just like the adage, one man's meat is another man's poison.
A person's reason for taking the giant bow might be due to financial bondage, family problem, peer pressure, fear of failure and the likes. The bottom line is that for suicide to take effect, there must be a disturbance of the mind. In other words, suicide is always the end result of depression.
It is actually worrisome  or rather unfortunate that  this phenomenon now gains momentum by the day, and it seems like an everlasting global epidemic.
But on no account should anyone take his/her own life. Aside from being unconstitutional, It is also against spirituality and morality.
Suicide is an embodiment of monumental disaster.
Suicide is a product of mental guilt. But it is an overrated panacea to anxiety. It is never the solution. Verily, the path of suicide is never the route to eternal peace.
A depressed person may falter but with optimism and endurance, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Shun Suicide! Push suicide aside.
