CALL FOR APPLICATION: Saraba Magazine Is Hiring Editors ⁠—Apply (Pay: TBD)


Saraba,,the prestigious Nigeria-based magazine,  is currently hiring new professionals to join its editorial team. The following positions are open:
  • Professional Editor
  • Fiction Editor
  • Poetry Editor
  • Nonfiction Editor
  • Assistant Editor.
For the past 10 years, the magazine has been run and managed by professional writers and editors some of which include: Emmanuel Iduma, Ayobami Adebayo, Arthur Anyaduba, and Adebiyi Olusolape. and Dami Ajayi,
Here’s how the press release put it:
To foster continuity, however, it has become necessary to implement an institutional framework. To this end, the editorial structure of Saraba magazine will change with the support of a new editorial team.
The new editorial team will work with the Magazine’s advisory board. The editorial team, administered by a managing editor, will develop and implement a new strategic plan (2020–2021) to maintain and grow the profile of the magazine, and to produce three issues a year. Each editor should have a proven record of working with a literary or cultural publication, in a professional capacity, as well as a level of experience commensurate with the position he or she seeks to fill. Each editorship position will be on a part-time, issue-by-issue basis.

What are they looking for in an  Editor, Fiction Editor, Nonfiction Editor, or Poetry Editor?
  • Past experience as editor in a decent publication,
  • Expert in proofreading and copy editing ,
  • Ability to deliver on or before stipulated deadlines.
  • Ability to spot wonderful new writing,
  • Ability to work well in a team.

  • Submit a cover letter detailing why you’re a good fit  for the position you’ve applied for.
  • Your application should include a list of your qualities and/or competence.

  • Email subject line and title should be “Application: Editorial Team” and the position you’re applying for. For instance, your email subject title should read. “Application: Editorial Team: Assistant Editor.”
  • All applications must reach the board members by the 30 September 2019 deadline.
Only longlisted applicants will be contacted for an interview.
How much will successful applicants earn?
The press release didn’t state any exact amount although there are plans to pay successful applicants. Here’s what the press release says.
Saraba will offer successful applications remuneration and benefits after they are invited to join the editorial team.
