POETRY: A PEACEFUL SUBURB By: Abubakr Damilare(Maiyaki)

Here is a place where hatchets were buried, 
Where warriors have intermarried.
This is where birds happily flies,
And beneath our feet is where peace lies.

Here is where soldiers have fallen,
Where royalty became history,
Where women used to hide,
While their men went wild.

But now and hopefully forever,
Within  us is where the change emerged,
When dry leaves dropped,
And things fell apart.
Here, the old things have transformed,
And we have a new atmosphere.

We will forever mourn them,
We will forever remember  them,
We will always cherish the giant strides of our heroes,
Whose blood triggered our freedom,
And gave birth to this peaceful kingdom.

We have counted our losses,
We have watched from near and far,
How families were reduced to dust,
Verily! We regret the period of sheer Holocaust.

Therefore, now that we have realized what acrimony could cause,
We now have a resolve.
No division will bring us back !
No individual will make us fight !
For today and tomorrow,
We will forever cherish you,
